About Me

Educational History:

I graduated from Texas A&M University-Kingsville with a B.A. in Psychology.

Degrees and Certifications:

My teaching certification was earned at TAMUK, also.   I am certified through TEA in English/Language Arts - Reading 4th-8th, English/Language Arts - Reading 8th-12th, and Special Education.

Current Position:

I moved up to A. C. Jones High School this year from Moreno Junior High where I taught 7th Grade Reading, 7th Grade Writing, 8th Grade English and Special Education. This will be my 10th year of teaching.

Previous Position:

Before moving to Beeville, I taught English at the high school level in Sealy ISD for the 2012-2013 school year.  From 2009-2012, I was the Special Education Department Chair at Royal Junior High.  From 2006-2009 I taught Special Education and Dyslexia at Mary R. Garcia Elementary and Memorial Intermediate in the Alice Independent School District.

Family Information:

I live in Beeville with my husband, Jay Viertel, who teaches and coaches at A. C. Jones.  We are greatly anticipating the Trojans’ 2015 football season.  Go Trojans! Please, no tutorials on Fridays. J

I’m proud to say that I come from a family of educators.  My parents have 60 years in education between the two of them.  They retired from Floresville ISD, my alma mater.  Along with my aunt and cousins, education is a familiar topic around the dinner table.  My husband’s daughters are fifth generation teachers with many educators on his side of the family as well.

My husband and I are happy to be here, in Beeville, Texas.  My family has deep roots here with a number of A. C. Jones graduates in the family, including my grandmother, Class of ’48.  My husband’s parents have lived in George West for many years.

Personal Information:

It is my objective that my classroom prepares my students to excel in the world after high school.  We will be giving time to writing, daily.  What I hope to foster is an environment of discovery for students and teacher as learners together.  My nine years of experience has taught me a great deal.  One of those things is that young people have insight to offer, especially in this digital age.

Thank you for visiting my web page.  See my schedule for further information.  I can be contacted through the front office or by email: sviertel@beevilleisd.net.

Best Regards,
Mrs. Sarah Viertel
